Skyhawks Softball Opens Season With Sweep of LaGrange
POINT, GA. – The Point University softball team opened up the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, collecting two wins over LaGrange College, 9-1 (6 inn.) and 5-4, from West Point Park Softball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)

Neither team gained much traction until the Skyhawks struck first in the third inning with an RBI double from the bat of freshman Anna McMahan. Fellow freshman Aubryn Sward followed with a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat to move Point's lead to a 2-0 advantage.

LaGrange responded with a run in the top half of the fourth inning, scoring the team's only run of the game on an RBI single to right field.

Point added two more runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a LaGrange fielding error to make the score 4-1.

The Skyhawks put the game away in the sixth frame, scoring five runs on just three hits to enforce the run rule. Junior Chelsey Hogsed drove in a run with an RBI double, followed by an RBI double from McMahan that scored two more runs. Sward put the game away with a two-run home run, putting Point ahead by eight runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)

The second game of the day was a much closer affair and both sides scored three runs apiece in the opening inning of action.

After LaGrange plated three runs in the top half of the first inning, McMahan put the Skyhawks on the board with an RBI double in the home half. Sward and sophomore Kendall Holbrook added RBIs as well to tie the score at 3-3.

In the third inning, senior Taylor Gajdik gave Point a 4-3 lead with an RBI double to left field before Holbrook added her second RBI of the game to put the Skyhawks ahead by two runs.

The Panthers brought a run across in the fifth with two outs to cut the deficit in half.

Both teams went scoreless over the last two innings to give Point the sweep.
NOTES

Junior Alyssa Burrows (1-0) got the win in the circle in game one, allowing just one run on three hits with two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Holbrook (1-0) was the winner in game two, pitching five innings in the circle with one run, four hits and a strikeout.

Gadjik pitched two innings of scoreless relief in the second game, striking out three batters.

McMahan was 4-for-8 on the day with two doubles and four RBI in her collegiate debut, while Sward had a home run and six RBI in her first action at the college level.

Point had eight extra-base hits in the doubleheader, scoring 14 total runs on 18 hits in two games.

The Skyhawks are back in action next weekend as they travel to Columbia, S.C. for four games on Feb. 13-14 in the Cola Classic Round Robin hosted by Columbia College.
