Strong Starts Fade Away in Skyhawks Losses to Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Al. – The Point University Skyhawks engaged in another chapter of the "Battle of I-85" on Friday afternoon, dropping two games to the Faulkner University Eagles 9-5 and 7-1 at Wynn Field.

Game One:

After four innings of scoreless softball, Point struck first. Caroline Bagwell scored on a throwing error and Avery Lee singled in Alexa McCoy for an unearned run. Faulkner wasted no time seeking redemption, and they knocked in five runs on as many hits in that same inning.

Faulkner added to the margin in the sixth when Chloe Davidson opened a four-run frame with an RBI triple, Segrest followed with an RBI double and Addyson Jarman capped the inning with a two-run home run to push the lead to 9-2.

Point put up a last-ditch effort in the seventh inning with an Aubryn Sward single that brought in Chelsey Hogsed, Avery Lee and Anna McMahan. Chloe Mitcham pitched most of the game, with five hits and three runs showing across 4.1 innings.

Game Two:

The Skyhawks scored first again, but much earlier this time. In the top of the second inning, MaKenzie Gilliland singled, advanced on a wild pitch and cashed in on an error. That lead held until the bottom of the third, when Faulkner's Addyson Jarman delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles took charge of the scoring from that point on, scattering seven runs across the final four innings.

McMahan, Gilliland, Natalie Lovelace and Sarah Hineley individually collected hits for Point. Alyssa Burrows was in it for the long haul, going 5.1 innings in the pitching circle before Raley Thorn took over. Burrows struck out just one on 10 hits and five earned runs.

Point moves on to next Friday, April 10, which sees them traveling to Mount Vernon, Georgia for games at 3:00 and 5:00pm against Brewton-Parker Christian University.
