Skyhawks Get Behind Early in 7-0 and 10-5 losses to Faulkner

WEST POINT, Ga. – After being no-hit in game one Saturday afternoon, the Point University Skyhawks bounced back at the plate in the second matchup, but it still wasn't enough to avoid a doubleheader sweep by the Faulkner University Eagles at West Point Park.

Game One (7-0 L):

The Skyhawks were denied of a hit all game long, with Faulkner pitcher Addison Moseley securing the achievement with six strikeouts through seven innings. The Eagles committed one error through the game.

Point's Taylor Gajdik and Alexa McCoy were hit by pitches in back-to-back at-bats in the first inning, but a line drive from MaKenzie Gilliland represented the third out.

Avery Lee was the Skyhawks' third and final baserunner of the game, reaching on a leadoff ground ball error that squeaked past the first basemen. From there, Moseley forced a strikeout, flyout and groundout to keep Point absent in the hit column.

Chloe Mitcham was the losing pitcher, only tossing one out and allowing a single run in the ballgame before Taylor Gajdik entered. Gajdik posted 3.2 innings and tossed all four strikeouts the Point pitching staff possessed. Kendall Holbrook rounded things out with just one run and two hits allowed in three full frames.

Game Two (10-5 L):

After being shut down offensively in the first game, Chelsey Hogsed singled on Point's first at-bat of game two. Anna MacMahan followed through with one of her own and they both came around on RBIs from Alexa McCoy and MaKenzie Gilliland for a 2-1 lead on Faulkner.

The Eagles tied it up on a sacrifice groundout in the second inning before Addyson Jarman ripped a two-run homer to left field that snuck Faulkner ahead 4-2. A throwing error bit the Skyhawks moments later as Madelyn Becker ran home from third base.

Faulkner posted another three-spot in the third inning before scoring two more in the sixth. The final pair came on Jarman's second two-run home run of the game. She wrapped up the day with four RBIs and three runs in the second game.

Point's two runs in the third inning came courtesy of a passed ball to bring in Hogsed and a Gilliland groundout that gave Gajdik just enough time to beat the throw home.

Gajdik played small ball to collect an RBI in the fifth with Chelsey Hogsed showing her speed from third, but that was the final bright spot at the dish for the Skyhawks in a 10-5 loss.

Alyssa Burrows gathered four strikeouts in the pitching circle but was handed the loss in her four-inning outing.

Only four games remain for the Skyhawks in the regular season, including a doubleheader on Friday, April 24 vs. Brewton-Parker Christian University before another twin bill on Saturday, April 25 against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The start times for both days are 2:00 and 4:00pm EDT at West Point Park.
