Alexis Tate enters her third season as the head coach for Point University women's basketball in 2026-27. Tate's story runs deep with Point University and the program, which has gotten her to the position she is in now.

The Point University women's basketball team moved in a new direction with a familiar face. Former assistant coach Alexis Tate was promoted to head coach for Point University women's basketball. Coach Tate has become a beloved figure at Point University and is well-respected in women's basketball. Following the departure of Hall of Famer and former head coach Tory Wooley, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics and Chief Student Development Officer Jaunelle White knew Alexis Tate had what it took to be a head coach at Point. "God revealed three years ago that something special was stirring within Coach Alexis Tate. That revelation has become a reality, and I cannot be happier for our women's basketball team," White said. "She and the young women in our program are destined for excellence!"

Alexis Tate has seen many layers of growth at Point University as a member of the 2021-22 women's basketball team. A serious knee injury in her final season became a blessing in disguise as she transitioned to the coaching world the following season. The 2022-23 season saw Tate take on the graduate assistant role in a more hands-on capacity with scouting and player development throughout the season. This proved to be a driving factor in the team's chemistry. It also led the women's basketball team to its first conference championship in school history in its final year in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Alexis Tate continued to grow as she was promoted to assistant coach in 2023-24. Tate grew to love the development of student-athletes and helped coach two SSAC All-Conference players for the women's basketball program. Alexis Tate has been around the mastermind of Tory Wooley and has seen her career come full circle with this position. Tate's playing career extends beyond Point, as she was a member of the Anderson University women's basketball team from 2017-2021. Her knowledge of the game extends from her dad, who is a well-known coach, to the mentors she has gained through the years. Tate's journey has been long, with her looking to figure out what her next steps were to impact the next generation. She also seeks to unite young women as student-athletes and future leaders. Tate said, "Starting as a player/grad assistant, I never knew what could have happened for me. I was able to be under a great coaching staff and really good players."

Alexis Tate added, "After my GA contract ended, I got the opportunity to be the assistant coach, and now I am blessed to receive the head coach position. God has truly blessed my path, and now I get the opportunity to serve others in a way I never imagined. I am very excited about this opportunity."

Tate loves the community at Point University and said she is thankful for how much it has impacted her life.
